Editorial policy
How these pages are made, and how to prove us wrong.
A reference site is a claim about method. This page states the method, so you can check whether a given page follows it and tell us when it does not.
Which sources count
Most of what is published about gambling online exists to send readers to an operator, which makes the majority of easily available material unusable as a source. We work from a strict order of preference.
- First: regulators and their published decisions, licence registers and legal texts
- Second: independent testing laboratories and the certification reports they publish
- Third: peer-reviewed research, and public health bodies for anything about gambling harm
- Fourth: the published rules of a game, and the arithmetic that follows from them, which we show rather than assert
- Never used as a source: operator marketing, affiliate comparison sites, forum claims, or any figure whose origin cannot be traced
How a page is checked
Every probability, house edge and payout figure is derived from the rules of the game and shown as a calculation, so a reader can redo it rather than trust it. Where a figure depends on a variant or a jurisdiction, the page names the variant and the jurisdiction instead of quoting a single number as universal.
Where something is genuinely uncertain, contested or changing, the page says so. An honest gap is more useful than a confident guess, and on regulation the situation in several of our markets is still moving.
Dates and updates
Each page carries two dates: when it was first published, and when its content was last verified. The second is not moved for a typo correction; it moves when the substance has been checked again against its sources.
Pages covering regulation are reviewed when a rule changes and on a regular cycle regardless, because a page that quietly goes out of date is worse than no page.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, write to hello@adfilius.com with the page and the sentence. If you have a source, include it. Confirmed errors are corrected and the page's verification date is updated; if a correction changes the substance of what a page said, the change is stated on the page rather than made silently.
We do not treat corrections as embarrassing. A site that never corrects anything is not more accurate, it is less honest.
Independence
No operator is named, ranked, reviewed or linked anywhere on this site. Nothing here is sponsored, and no page is influenced by a commercial relationship, because there is currently no commercial relationship to influence it.
If that changes, two rules apply and are published before anything else: any page carrying a commercial link says so before you read it, and explanatory content is never the same page as commercial content. A recommendation and an explanation serve different interests, and mixing them is how this industry's reference sites lost their credibility.
What is never published here
Some things are excluded by policy, not by oversight.
- Winning strategies, systems presented as effective, or any suggestion that the house edge can be beaten
- Predictions of outcomes, or claims about a game being due
- Invented statistics, invented testimonials and figures without a traceable source
- Anything designed to appeal to people under the legal age
- Encouragement to gamble, to deposit more, or to recover losses
Playing should stay a choice.
If it has stopped being one, free and confidential help exists in every country this site is published in, independent of any operator.
